Pixel Hall Press Celebrates the Publication of „The Winter Boy“ during the World Fantasy Conference

With this week’s long awaited publication of the literary speculative novel „The Winter Boy“ by Sally Wiener Grotta, celebrations include author appearances, book signings, readings and a launch party in Arlington, VA

Celebrations and author appearances for the long-awaited novel „The Winter Boy“ start this week at the World Fantasy Conference in the Washington, DC area (at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City). While Sally Wiener Grotta’s newest novel blurs the lines of genre, being more literary speculative than fantasy, it is set in an imaginary world which gives it elements of both fantasy and science fiction, as well as of a political thriller and a coming of age story. Reviewers and advance readers have indicated that they don’t care what genre it fits (or doesn’t fit), being too swept up in the „masterful storytelling.“ Pixel Hall Press has arranged for additional author appearances around the country over the next six months.

At the World Fantasy Conference:

Pixel Hall Press has given every attendee of the conference complimentary downloads for the full book, plus 50 people (chosen randomly) received the paperback edition.

Sally Wiener Grotta’s personal appearances at the World Fantasy Conference include the following:

  • On Friday, November 7, 11:30 AM to noon, Sally Wiener Grotta will read from „The Winter Boy,“ and will answer questions from the audience.
  • She will be doing book signings on Friday, November 7, 4:00 to 5:00 PM and Saturday, November 8, 11:00 AM to noon. (Copies of „The Winter Boy“ will be available for sale.)
  • Saturday, November 8, 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sally will participate in the readings at the Broad Universe event.

In addition, Pixel Hall Press will host a party to honor Sally Wiener Grotta and celebrate the publication of „The Winter Boy“ on Saturday, 9:00 PM to midnight.

About „The Winter Boy“:

The Valley of the Alleshi is the center of all civilization, the core and foundation of centuries of peace. A cloistered society of widows, the Alleshi, has forged peace by mentoring young men who will one day become the leaders of the land. Each boy is paired with a single Allesha for a season of intimacy and learning, using time-honored methods that include storytelling, reason and sex. However, unknown to all but a hidden few, the peace is fracturing from pressures within and beyond, hacking at the very essence of their civilization.

Amidst this gathering political maelstrom, Rishana, a young new idealistic Allesha, takes her First Boy, Ryl, for a winter season of training. But Ryl is a “problem boy,” who fights Rishana every step of the way. At the same time, Rishana uncovers a web of conspiracies that could not only destroy Ryl, but threatens to tear their entire society apart. And a winter that should have been a gentle, quiet season becomes one of conflict, anger and danger.

The public is welcome to read a complimentary excerpt of „The Winter Boy,“ to see for themselves what critics are calling „A Literary Triumph,“ „Lyrical,“ „Masterful.“

About Pixel Hall Press

Pixel Hall Press is a relatively new, old-fashioned small publishing house whose focus is on discovering literary gems and great stories that might otherwise be overlooked. Our mission is to publish books that energize the imagination and intrigue the mind, and to be a conduit between readers and provocative, stimulating, talented authors.

In this era of digital technology, Wall Street involvement and merger mania, many mainstream publishers seem to have lost sight of core principles and the purpose of publishing. At the other end of the spectrum is the veritable avalanche of self-published books that are notoriously uneven in quality. Small boutique imprints like Pixel Hall Press are reclaiming the heart and soul of publishing by reviving the idea that a publisher’s core purpose is finding and nurturing great writers, and to provide readers with beautiful, meaningful, truly enjoyable books.
