The Vladar Company Releases DEATH METAL ANGOLA – International Award Winning Documentary to Premiere in Los Angeles in Theaters Now

Exclusive Q&A with Director Jeremy Xido after 7:35pm showing. Moderated by Jonathan Ruddick Co-founder of Giant Step Records and NoisePop FestivalAMC Burbank Town Center 8 on November 7, 2014

After the recent successful release of Generation Iron in theaters which hit #1 for documentaries in the US at the box office for three consecutive weeks and has since grossed more than ,000,000.00 at the worldwide box office in 2013. The Vladar Company is now excited to release DEATH METAL ANGOLA, a remarkable documentary that explores the pulsating death metal scene in the West African country of Angola, the epicenter of Africa’s rock music culture, and the people who keep it alive and thrashing. Directed by Jeremy Xido, who happened to be in Angola researching another documentary when he discovered that the war-torn nation had a flourishing death metal scene, DEATH METAL ANGOLA reveals the power of heavy metal music—as magical to some as it can be terrifying to others—to both heal and inspire. Vlad Yudin and Edwin Mejia, creators and producers of Generation Iron, are also bringing their talents as Executive Producers for DEATH METAL ANGOLA

Along with the theatrical premiere in Los Angeles it is expanding to New York City November 21, 2014 at Cinema Village paired with a Day and Date release with iTunes. If you aren’t in the LA or NYC area you can pre-order your copy of DEATH METAL ANGOLA starting November 7, 2014.

DEATH METAL ANGOLA has many supporters from the death metal music scene to the indie documentary scene. DEATH METAL ANGOLA recently qualified for the Oscars in the Documentary feature film category. This documentary is not your standard metal music documentary. It leaves you thinking differently about the death metal genre as a whole. Death metal music pulls the people of Angola together and out of the hole of a desperate identity crisis that soon gives them the artistic, political, and self-expression needed for, not just Angolans, but for all people. You walk away from this movie feeling inspired, and thankful that music is something we all can turn to.

Synopsis:

Following nearly 40 years of unrelenting war – with every attendant horror – peace and reconstruction are slowly arriving to war-ravaged Angola, potentially the richest country in Africa. Damaged first by the war for independence from Portugal, Angola was then ripped apart by a devastating civil war that orphaned thousands of children. Huambo, Angola’s second largest city, finds 55 of these children in the Okutiuka orphanage under the care of Sonia Ferreira. Sonia’s boyfriend, Wilker Flores, is a death metal guitarist who uses the brutal sounds and rhythms of this hardcore music as a path to healing, or, as Sonia says, “to clear out the debris from all these years of war.”
